Our School Ethos, Values and Aims
At Solent, we have a relentless drive for improvement, excellence and equity. We strongly believe in quality first education for all. We know that every child has unique characteristics and we shape our provision to support every child. We are incredibly proud of our teaching team, and also our learning support team, and invest enormously in high quality recruitment, retention and development of these teams.
Our aim is that all children and staff:
Learn and thrive within an environment of aspiration, equity and justice for all, through high challenge and low threat.
Our values for the whole school community:
We share our trust vision of promoting high aspirations and achieving excellent outcomes for all children; our schools are inclusive and exist to serve the children who live in the locality. We believe that the school learning environment should deliver a vibrant, creative and relevant education for all pupils; fostering a love of learning is central to what we do.
The School and the Surrounding Area
Solent Junior School is a warm and caring school community where every child is valued as an individual. We provide a curriculum that will inspire, motivate and engage our children and foster an understanding and love of learning. We aim to equip our learners with the skills necessary to succeed in life in the 21st century.
We encourage our children to take part in the wide variety of enriching opportunities that Solent offers: clubs, music, performance, residential trips and, of course, Rock Challenge! The strength of partnership between home and school enables our children to become confident, successful and responsible young people with high standards of academic achievement.

The school is situated within the north eastern boundary of the City of Portsmouth. Parents often refer to Drayton as a village because of the strength of the local community that they find here. Solent was first established in 1925 and enjoys a good reputation within the area.
Solent is a three form entry junior school with 12 classes and 360 children on roll. We have strong links with Solent Infant School which is situated close by.
