The Local Governing Body for both Solent Infant and Junior Schools is made up of a group of enthusiastic volunteers with a wide range of skills and expertise. Governors are selected from the staff of the school, parents and carers, and the wider community that our school serves.
As part of a Multi-Academy Trust, the Local Governing Body reports directly to The De Curci Trust Board of Trustees, and has responsibility, alongside the leadership team and staff, for deciding the strategic direction of the schools and in supporting excellent educational provision for all pupils. Our role is to support the schools, but also provide a level of challenge for the school senior leaders.
To fulfil this role effectively, the Local Governing Body conducts a regular schedule of board meetings, sub-committees, and formal and informal school visits. In addition, individual governors are allocated specific ‘Link’ roles, whereby they act as a point of contact for the schools, hold meetings with staff and report to the Governing Board accordingly. A breakdown of how we are structured can be found here.
Our work includes:
• Supporting the development of the schools’ visions, strategies, and values. • Reviewing the Schools’ Improvement Plans. • Engaging with parents and carers to ensure their views are considered and responded to appropriately. • Reviewing and approving school policies.
• Ensuring the provision of an inclusive environment for all pupils. • Overseeing the schools’ arrangements for child protection, safeguarding and welfare provision. • Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the schools’ provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. • Approving risk assessments for residential trips and visits.
• Holding the schools’ leadership teams to account for academic performance. • Oversight of quality of teaching learning and assessment, ensuring a broad and balanced curriculum. • Ensuring the schools have appropriate support and intervention strategies in place to deliver high quality teaching. • Supporting and reviewing the schools’ provisions of teaching for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Seeking value for money and reviewing expenditure regularly. • Management of buildings and maintenance. • Ensuring compliance with all health and safety related regulations. • Ensuring that Pupil Premium, Service Premium and similar funding is used effectively.

Contacting the Governors
Whilst the school leadership team should always remain the primary point of contact, the Local Governing Body welcomes the views of parents and carers and can provide additional information related to the topics outlined above. If you would like to ask us a question, please click here.
You can also write to us (please ensure any correspondence is left in the office in an envelope marked for the attention of the Chair of Governors).
Parent Governors are also often available in the school grounds in the morning and afternoon. You can identify us from the photos on the website, and we’ll also be wearing governor lanyards, and ID cards whenever we’re on the school premises.
